BK author, illustrator promotes love of natural hair

A Brooklyn author and illustrator is using her colorful art to inspire others and promote the love of one's natural hair.

Sharee Miller, an author and illustrator from St. Thomas, moved to Brooklyn in 2008. She attended the Pratt Institute and received a degree in fine arts in 2012.

Since that time, the 26-year-old has published three books that she has illustrated and authored. The books depict young African-American children, the beauty of their natural hair and the joy of loving yourself.

As a woman who embraced her natural hair again in 2012 after years of it being straightened, Miller believes her work can truly be empowering.

Wells is currently working on an illustrated chapter book trilogy written by actress Quvenzhane Wallis.
