Disaster simulation program held to prepare for emergencies

A disaster simulation event was held Thursday to prepare residents for real-life emergency situations.

The simulation, which was held on Gerard Avenue, was part of a 10-week program to help firefighters, members of the NYPD and members of NYC Emergency Management in case of an emergency.

During the event, the group learned basic response skills, fire safety skills and search and rescue.

The graduates of the program will first go through an orientation and will then join a team of other volunteers certified to help during emergencies.
