Officers, residents share meal for unity

Around 50 people gathered in Sunset Park Monday to share a meal for unity and peace among neighborhoods.

Aml Elsokary was the guest of honor of the Unity in the Community event, held at the Widdi Catering Hall.

In December, the NYPD officer was a victim of a hate crime. She was off duty in her Bay Ridge neighborhood and wearing her hijab when she says a man shoved her teenage son, called her "ISIS," threatened her and told her and her son to "go back to your country."

Elsokary's shared a free meal with other officers, community members and residents to encourage communities to come together and stop hate.

Elsokary says she will continue to fight for victims of hate crimes.
