Crime within 60th Precinct down 20 percent

Recently released crime stats show overall crime within the 60th Precinct is down 20 percent since the start of the new year.

The stats are compared to the same time frame last year.

Residents in Brighton Beach say they have noticed an increased police presence in the neighborhood.

The positive trends are consistent with the monthly crime stats released Monday, when Mayor Bill de Blasio commented on what the NYPD says are historic-low crime rates citywide.

"January of 2017 had the lowest number of homicides and the lowest number of shootings in the modern era in New York City," says De Blasio.
