Officials: NYC graduation rates highest ever

Officials say that New York City had its highest graduation rate ever last year.

According to Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina, the graduation rate is up to 72.6 percent citywide, a 2.1 percent gain.

In Brooklyn, the graduation rate increased this past school year by nearly 1.5 percent to more than 72 percent overall.

Fifteen years ago, the graduation rate in New York City was 51 percent.

The mayor says a big reason in the change has been focusing on teacher development.

He also says the graduation rate has increased in every borough and in every demographic.
