N train to go local, undergo yearlong repairs starting next May

Community Board 7 says the MTA plans to make the N train local next spring so the express subway tunnel between the 36th Street station and the 59th Street station can undergo much-needed repairs.

The express tunnel will be closed during the repair.

Some residents say they are going to do their best to prepare for the changes, but others are worried that it will slow down their commute.

"I think it's time for the repairs, but it needs to be done at certain times that doesn't interfere with people going to work," said one commuter.

Community Board 7 says part of the yearlong tunnel work includes installing new drains and raising the sidewalk vents which will prevent water from seeping into the subway.

Work is expected to begin in May next year and last through May 2019.
