Brooklyn Brownstone School students receive free dental screenings

More than 100 children from the Brooklyn Brown School received free dental screenings to celebrate National Children's Dental Health Month.

Interfaith Medical Center sponsored the free screenings for the students at the Bedford-Stuyvesant school.

Officials say it's crucial for students to get into a dentist's chair because the area of Brooklyn is one of the most underserved in all of New York City.

"The earlier that we can introduce a child to dentistry and good oral health, the better off they're going to be long-term," says dentist Roenikya Phillips.

While this was the first trip to the dentist for some kids, dental professionals recommend kids get care as early as age one.
