Police: Officers kill suspect in East New York shootout

Police say officers killed a suspect in a shootout Thursday in East New York.

According to the chief of patrol, a sergeant and officers were at Fountain and Blake avenues around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a potential gang shooting in retaliation for a shooting this past weekend. Police saw a man running and followed him.

The man allegedly drew his gun when officers exited their vehicle and then fired in their direction. The officers returned fire and chased the man into the backyard of 890 Belmont Ave., where the suspect was fatally shot.

The suspect has not yet been identified.

Police say a revolver was recovered at the scene and that no officers were injured.
