Students march in 'Black Minds Matter' rally in Brownsville

In honor of Black History Month, some Brownsville students are celebrating through a "Black Minds Matter" march.

More than 400 students from Brooklyn Ascend Middle School took part in the day's events.

Organizers say getting students out of the classroom and onto the streets is a great way to put into practice what they have learned during Black History Month.

The students used teachings from history books and classroom lessons to express themselves with chants and signs.

"If you don't have education, you don't have a purpose in life," says Kyla Robothem.
