CB6 wants 2-way toll on Verrazano Bridge

Some Bay Ridge residents say they're tired of out-of-state drivers cutting through their neighborhood to save cash rather than pay the toll on the Verrazano Bridge.

Community Board 6 sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo asking him to bring back two-way tolling on the bridge. Cuomo's office says tolling on the bridge is handled by the federal government, and Congress would have to approve any changes.

Currently, drivers take the bridge into Brooklyn for free. They would have to pay a $16 toll to take it back out, but often instead use other routes.

Community Board 6 argues that the move to switch to cashless tolling on the bridge would ease congestion problems in Staten Island, where the tolls were originally removed because of traffic problems in 1986.
