NYPD: Pit bulls attack young boy in East New York

A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was mauled by two pit bulls inside his home in East New York.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday at the home on Riverdale Avenue.

Jerimiah Rivera was initially taken to Brookdale Hospital after the attack before being rushed to Long Island Jewish Medical Center for further care.

Police say the child is in stable condition.

A family friend tells News 12 that the dogs belong to the child's father.

"I've had no experience with them, but when you see them, you definitely will have to cross the street. Just very vicious dogs," says neighbor Diane Batista.

Investigators say there were two other children in the home at the time. They weren't harmed.

Animal Care Centers of NYC confirms that the dogs were brought to one of its Manhattan locations. They are being examined for rabies and then will be evaluated.
