MTA: Ridership dropped in 2016

Subway ridership dipped last year, according to preliminary data from the MTA.

Every year since 2010 had broken the previous record for total travelers, but last year, the total of 1.76 billion amounted to a drop of about 6 million riders from the year before.

Bus ridership continued its steady decline in the same period, down 8 percent since 2010. From 2015 to 2016, bus riders fell by 12 million, the data shows.

The MTA says final numbers will be released in March or April.
