Police: Man dies after falling down stairs while walking dogs

Police say a man was killed Friday after falling down the stairs and hitting his head.

They say 53-year-old Christian Dallett was helping out his girlfriend, a professional dog walker, by offering to walk two dogs for a family on Carroll Street. Dallett had just picked up the dogs from the second floor apartment, but somehow fell down the stairs and hit his head.

Officials say the family's son opened the door and found Dallett lying at the bottom of the stairs. Responding emergency workers pronounced him dead at the scene.

"Very sad, I was surprised," says Antonio Ceriello, owner of the building. "I came around 4 o'clock back to my office and I heard the story and it was incredible. I couldn't believe it."

Officials say Dallett was an author, designer and longtime Brooklyn resident who was visiting the area after recently moving to Massachusetts to take care of his mother.

Police say there does not appear to be any criminality.
