8-year-old spreads police appreciation message

An 8-year-old who has shown his appreciation for the NYPD is now spreading his message of gratitude to officers across the country.

As News 12 has reported, Zachary Becerra first started giving thank-you cards to police officers at different precincts throughout New York City in 2014.

Zachary and his mother, Rosa, started the project together after Zachary learned about the murder of NYPD Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

He says it made him sad and he decided he wanted to show his appreciation to the men and women out there putting their lives on the line for others each and every day.

Since starting his project, Zachary has sent thank-you cards to all 77 police precincts in New York City. His mother says he is now sending thank you cards to precincts in other states and visiting special units throughout the city.

Zachary says he is excited to be a police officer one day and his dream job is to be police commissioner.
