Bed-Stuy man sells rare, antique maps

An antique map dealer in Bedford-Stuyvesant has been selling and searching the world for rare maps for almost two decades.

Kevin Brown runs his business from his home, with some maps ranging in date from 1650 to the 1850s.

He says foreign governments, libraries, museums and map collectors buy the antique maps, as well as some who want to give them as gifts.

"Around the holidays we get a lot of phone calls from people that are buying maps for the first time," he says. "They never bought a rare map before. They think it might be a neat gift because their uncle or father or cousin likes maps or has expressed an affinity for history."

Brown's prices range from about $100 to $250,000.
