Century-old church bells sound again in Carroll Gardens

After a brief hiatus, the sounds of the Sacred Heart-St. Stephen's Church bells have returned to Carroll Gardens.

The church bells have been in the area for over a century but stopped working last summer and went silent for over six months.

Residents of the community say the neighborhood wasn't the same without the sound of the bells.

Some of the broken bells have now been fixed, and new strikers were added since the previous striker became too old for the job.

The church has also added more modern technology so that the bells could be signaled to toll electronically.
