One man was killed and another is in custody after an SUV collided with a garbage truck near Bensonhurst early Wednesday morning. According to investigators, the driver of a Jeep ran a stop sign and slammed into the truck at 20th Avenue and 61st Street at around 2 a.m., killing his passenger. The passenger has been identified as 45-year-old John Larocca, and police say the Jeep was less than 500 feet from his home when the accident killed him. Authorities say the driver is at Lutheran Medical Center, but is also in custody for suspicion of being under the influence. EMS workers say he smelled of alcohol as they worked to pull him from the wreckage, and police say he will likely face drunken driving charges. Cops say the driver and a passenger in the garbage truck were taken to Lutheran Medical Center. Both are expected to be OK.
