Police wound shooting suspect during East NY gunfight
Police say they shot and wounded a suspect who was fleeing the scene of a robbery and shooting in East New York early yesterday morning.Auhorities say the incident happened at around 3 a.m. near 2525 Linden Blvd. Police say they heard shots in the area and quickly responded to the scene at the Cypress Hills Grocery Store. They found a 28-year-old man lying in the street after he was robbed and shot in the stomach, investigators say.Police say they saw 20-year-old Joseph Padilla nearby holding a gun. When the officers identified themselves as police, they say Padilla fled and fired shots at the officers.The responding officers returned fire, hitting Padilla in the leg. Police say he's now facing several charges, including attempted murder and robbery. Police say another suspect was arrested for allegedly being present during the robbery and shooting. Corey Mazyck, 21, of The Bronx, is facing charges for his alleged role.Authorities say both Padilla and the shooting victim are in stable condition. Two officers were also hospitalized after the incident, for a leg injury and for hearing loss.
