State Democrats call for minimum wage hike
Minimum wage workers in Brooklyn could be getting a raise if New York Sate Democrats get their way in Albany.
The lawmakers are proposing a $1.25 minimum wage hike, which would bring the rate to $8.50 per hour. The state's current minimum is less than 18 other states, as well as the District of Columbia.
Some experts and workers worry the change could actually be negative. The Empire Center for New York State Policy says that by raising minimum wage, some companies would be forced to hire fewer workers or lay off some people already employed.
