Wounded NYPD officer in court for suspect's hearing

The Brooklyn officer who survived being shot in the head appeared in court today as the man accused of shooting him went before a judge.

According to authorities, 21-year-old Luis Ortiz shot officer Kevin Brennan at the Bushwick Houses on Jan. 31. Brennan, who underwent surgery to remove a bullet from his skull, was promoted to detective last week.

Ortiz has been charged with first-degree attempted murder. He faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He'll be back in court again on April 16.
