A fire in Brighton Beach today claimed the life of one man and sent a woman to the hospital.
The fire broke out this evening at 2847 Brighton 3rd St. Firefighters say it took them a half-hour to get the flames under control.
According to Deputy Chief Andrew Dipadova, an 18-year-old man died in a second-floor apartment when the fire started. The hospitalized woman was on the first floor when the fire broke out.
The two victims have not been identified. The woman is now recovering at Coney Island Hospital.
The fire also destroyed four apartments. Other families who lived in the building were not home at the time.
