Tech industry sparks job growth in DUMBO

While the economy is still struggling to recover, the technology industry is taking hold in DUMBO and on a major hiring spree.
In 2005, just a handful of tech companies called DUMBO home, but now there are more than 100 companies in the neighborhood, according to the DUMBO Business Improvement District.
Alexandria Sica, who runs the DUMBO Business Improvement District, says that a recent poll shows there are more than 300 available tech jobs in the area.
About half of the available job openings come from Wireless Generation, a company that creates technology for teachers.
"In a time when there's 9 percent unemployment in NY, that's fantastic," says Sica. "It's really just the opportunity of the future here in the city."
