MTA begins smoking ban enforcement

Smokers beware: Enforcement of the MTA's smoking ban on all Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road platforms kicks into high gear today.

The law went into effect last November, but until now, violators have only been issued a warning.

With the end of the grace period, those caught lighting up will face possible ejection from the train station, fines of up to $50 and 30 days in jail.
