Police: Stray bullet strikes 81-year-old in East NY
An 81-year-old woman was shot in the face by a stray bullet last night while in her East New York home.
According to police, it happened at around 5:30 p.m. at a new city housing complex on Barbey Street near Sutter Avenue. They say the elderly victim was rushed to Brookdale Hospital and is expected to recover.
Officials say the bullet crashed through a living room window, which slowed it down and prevented the woman from suffering more serious injuries.
Media sources are reporting that the victim is the grandmother of a police officer who works with Commissioner Ray Kelly's security detail.
