An elderly man from Bedford-Stuyvesant has been released from the hospital after being shot in the back this morning. Fitz Murray, 93, says he was shot as he was returning to his home at 481 Willoughby Ave. after getting his morning paper. He says when he turned around, the gunman was gone.Neighbor Roosevelt Williams says he saw that Murray was shot and called 911. Murray's son, Fitz Murray Jr., says doctors said that removing the bullet from his father's back could do more damage than leaving it in, so the bullet was not extracted. Murray has been a member of the block association for more than 50 years. Many local residents say they regard him as a mentor.
