Brownsville barbers claim unlawful NYPD raid
Employees at a barber shop in Brownsville say the NYPD unlawfully raided their building two weeks ago. The owner of Brooklyn's Finest Barber Shop, located on Lavonia Avenue, says police officers barged in on March 17 and locked the doors. He says they refused to let anyone leave or enter, and did not show a warrant. The barbers say police claimed they were conducting a health inspection, leaving them with tickets for having unclosed trash cans and hair on the floor.City health officials say they would not send officers for an inspection, and the state Department of Health says barber shops are rarely inspected. The ticketed barbers say they are banning together to get legal representation.
