New Utrecht furniture store gutted by fire

A New Utrecht furniture store was destroyed by an early morning fire, shutting down traffic along 18th Avenue. Firefighters say tenants living above the business dialed 911 at around 8:45 a.m. after smelling smoke. They say the flames started on the first floor and spread to the second. Deputy Fire Chief William Tanzosh says his crews acted quickly and prevented nearby stores from igniting. Officials say no one was seriously injured. One firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation, but was treated at the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
