American Cancer Society urges colon cancer screenings

The American Cancer Society is raising the alarm in Brooklyn that many people are forgoing colon cancer screenings, something that could save their life.
Officials say that three out of five cases in New York are found at later, less treatable, stages; and in Brooklyn, the numbers are higher than the city average.
They say many avoid a colonoscopy because they feel it is uncomfortable or because they lack medical insurance.
The cancer society says the time to start getting colonoscopies is at age 50.
The American Cancer Society says it is offering colonoscopies for uninsured people free of charge to try and help save lives.
