Deadline looms for last-minute tax filers
It's down to the wire for last-minute tax filers to get their tax returns postmarked and on the way to Uncle Sam.
Filers only have until midnight tonight, but procrastinators may still be able to get an extension by printing out and mailing in a 4868 form to the IRS. If approved, the extension gives taxpayers until Oct. 15 to get their papers in order and avoid a late fee.
For those who owe taxes, an extension won't help. Payments still must be submitted before the end of the day, but can be made in installments by sending in a 9465 form and paying a fee.
The IRS has also provided taxpayers with several high-tech ways to get their questions answered this tax season, including an app, YouTube videos, and Facebook and Twitter accounts.
