NYS invests $1M into bus safety inspection program
The New York State Legislature is investing $1 million into bus safety by modifying statewide inspection methods. The new program will be based on performance, with companies carrying the worst safety records requiring more checkups. State officials say every company will be monitored at least twice per year. The plan comes in the wake of a 2010 bus crash along I-95 in The Bronx that killed 15 people. Last month, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration also unveiled an app for iPhones and iPads to keep riders in check with their bus company's inspection records. 2 BK bus companies suspended for safety issues
