App lends support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and now there's a smart phone app to help spread the message of anti-violence.
The Circle of 6 app allows anyone to send a pre-written text message to six people at the same time with two taps of the phone. The messages can include a GPS location when users need someone to get them home safe or just a note to call if they feel in danger.
One of the founders of this app is Brooklyn resident Nancy Schwarzman, who says this application could not come at a better time. Six months ago there was a long string of sexual assaults in the Sunset Park and Park Slope areas.
Circle of 6 wants to get 30,000 college students to download the app by the end of the month. They labeled today National Download Day to encourage parents, students and advocates to get the word out.
