Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) today announced an end to the fingerprint imaging requirement for food stamp applicants. Local officials have been rallying for the change. They argued that the attempt to prevent fraud was a hassle and a deterrent for food aid applicants. Cuomo says dropping the fingerprinting requirement will aid in reducing hunger across the state.
