Judge grants class action status to stop-and-frisk lawsuit
A judge has granted class action status to a 2008 lawsuit against the NYPD's controversial stop-and-frisk policy.
The suit accuses police officers of discriminating against blacks and Hispanics. The judge ruled that there was "overwhelming evidence" that a centralized stop-and-frisk program has led to thousands of unlawful stops.
NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly declined to comment.
