DOE announces new names for city 'turnaround' schools

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott has announced new names for 24 "turnaround" schools.

The struggling schools, including five in Brooklyn, will reopen this fall with new names, teachers and improved programs. The changes have sparked months of protests from parents, students and educators.

Among the affected schools is John Dewey High School, which will become Shorefront High School of Arts and Sciences at John Dewey Campus, and Automotive High School, which will be known as Greenpoint High School for Engineering and Automotive Technology.
