NYCLU: Stop-and-frisk policy ineffective, racially motivated
The New York Civil Liberties Union today released figures it says show blacks and Latinos are disproportionately stopped and frisked by the NYPD.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio also joined the growing chorus of stop and frisk critics today when he announced a proposal to reduce the number of unwarranted searches and called for a special inspector general to look into the NYPD's policy.
Police conducted more than 684,000 street stops last year.
