Crews work to fix massive sinkhole in Bay Ridge
Emergency crews are working to fix a massive sinkhole that's causing problems along 92nd Street in Bay Ridge.
The hole has been filled with dirt to prevent further erosion and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is trying to figure out what caused the sinkhole to form. Officials from the DEP say the hole is about 50 to 60 feet deep. Because of the drilling, gas was shut off to several homes.
Eleven families were evacuated earlier this afternoon and have since been allowed to return to their homes. Police say 92nd Street will be shut down as crews continue to work, but the sidewalk has been reopened.
