Residents demand answers after police shoot unarmed woman
Residents in East Flatbush are demanding answers from the NYPD after a police officer shot and killed an unarmed woman following a police chase yesterday.
Officials say they were pursuing 23-year-old Shantel Davis Thursday evening in a stolen car when she crashed at East 38th Street and Church Avenue.
During the ensuing scuffle between Davis and officers, one of the officer's guns discharged, striking Davis in the chest, according to investigators.
Residents in the neighborhood have taken to the street, calling the death a murder at the hands of the NYPD. They say the NYPD was acting irrationally and violently.
Neighbors say a vigil will be held for Davis on Saturday.
