Community leaders push for stronger response to illegal guns
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the NYPD are pushing for a stronger community response to illegal guns in the wake of a double shooting in Crown Heights.
Officials say Brooklyn has three precincts with the highest amount of gun-related arrests in the entire city. East New York has more gun-related arrests than any other precinct in the five boroughs.
According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the illegal guns are making their way to city streets through the 'iron pipeline,' which includes states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Texas.
