Layoff notices doled out at SUNY Downstate Medical Center
Dozens of workers at SUNY Downstate Medical Center will soon be out of a job after receiving 30-day layoff notices over the weekend.
The United University Professions Unions says 54 of its members were given pink slips, along with many others. The union says even more cuts are on the horizon and that they threaten the quality of care patients will receive.
In a statement, SUNY Downstate said in part, "We will continue to provide outstanding care to our patients, education to our students and commitment to our research and surrounding communities throughout the process."
