World gets first look at Colo. shooting suspect
Colorado movie theater shooting suspect James Holmes was wide-eyed, frowning and unshaven Monday as he made his first court appearance handcuffed with reddish orange hair.
According to authorities, the 24-year-old is refusing to cooperate. They say it could take months to learn what prompted the attack that killed 12 and injured 58 at a midnight showing of the new Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises."
Holmes showed little emotion as he sat staring down. At one point, he closed his eyes as a judge spoke.
District Attorney Carol Chambers provided no information on whether Holmes was on medication and said it will be months before a decision is made on whether to seek the death penalty.
The University of Colorado is also investigating whether Holmes used his position as a graduate student to order materials that he allegedly used to booby trap his apartment.
Thousands of people gathered for a vigil Sunday night in Aurora, which began with words from President Barack Obama, who is in town to meet with family members of the victims.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg also spoke about the tragedy on CBS's Face the Nation Sunday morning where he said the president needs to take a stronger stance on gun laws.
