Charges dropped against victim in alleged police beating
Charges have been dropped against a man who was allegedly beaten by police officers at a Jewish community center in Crown Heights.
Ehud Haleavy initially faced several charges, including assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, after being found sleeping naked in the women's section of the Alternative Learning Institute for Young Adults.
Haleavy allegedly refused to leave, which led to an altercation with two responding officers. The incident was caught on surveillance video, which sparked outrage and protest throughout the community.
The 21-year-old spoke about the incident, admitting that he mouthed off to police, but saying that he never threw a punch. Haleavy also said he's thankful the camera footage was able to clear him of any wrongdoing.
One officer seen in the video is on modified duty. Haleavy's lawyer says his client may file a civil suit.
