Green affordable housing opens in Brownsville

A new state-of-the-art affordable housing facility is giving some formerly homeless and low-income adults a permanent place to call home.
The building on Hegeman Avenue in Brownsville will not only accommodate 161 families, but it was also built to be environmentally friendly. Residents will even have access to extensive social services, including employment help and financial literacy.
The complex, which was designed by Cook and Fox Architects for Common Ground, cost $43 million to build. Residents started moving in back in April, with around 100 units already filled.
