City hospitals prep for severe weather
Coney Island Hospital is one of six hospitals across the city that made early preparations for Hurricane Sandy.
Ventilator-dependent patients were transferred to other nearby buildings over fears that a loss of power could threaten their lives.
City officials say health care facilities expected to be severely impacted by the storm have also brought in more staff. They say most buildings have backup generators and any outages should not last more than a few hours.
