Bill would require MTA to install partitions in buses
A state assemblyman from New York City is introducing a bill that would force the MTA to provide partitions in all of its 7,000 buses amid a rash of assaults on bus drivers. Assemblyman Eric Stevenson (D-District 79) will introduce the legislation. Bus drivers say that only about 8 percent of buses have partitions now, and some of those are not large enough to ward off violent passengers. Officials say it would cost a few thousand dollars to install a partition on each bus, but in the long-run, they would pay for themselves by avoiding lawsuits that stem from violent incidents. The MTA says it is has installed about 650 bus shields already, but drivers say that's not enough.2 Brooklyn bus drivers recovering after separate attacks2 Brooklyn bus drivers attacked within minutes of each other
