City Council mulls stop-and-frisk reforms

The City Council convened today for a hearing to discuss possible changes to the NYPD's controversial stop-and-frisk policy.
The legislation would force officers to get consent from people before they are stopped and frisked, as well as require officers to inform anyone who is stopped and frisked of their rights. It also calls for an inspector general to be appointed to oversee all policies and procedures of the police force.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has touted the policy as a crime-buster, but critics say it unfairly targets minorities.
