Police urged to increase security after possible serial killer
Elected officials and community leaders have come together to ask police for increased security in light of a possible serial killer in Brooklyn.
Police believe three fatal shootings of store owners in Brooklyn is the work of one suspect. The latest fatal shooting occurred Friday evening at the She She Boutique, located at 834 Flatbush Ave. Police say 78-year-old Rahmatollah Vahidipour was shot in the head and torso three times.
Investigators say the same gun that was used in Friday's shooting was also used in Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst fatal shootings over the summer. Police believe the suspect may choose a specific number pattern for the addresses he chooses to strike.
Authorities say the men who were targeted were older and of Middle Eastern descent. None of the stores targeted had surveillance cameras.
Police say all three men were shot in the head or neck. The other fatal shootings also occurred at addresses that contained the numbers 7, 1 and 8.
Sen. Eric Adams and City Councilman Jumaane Williams pleaded with store owners Sunday to invest in security cameras.
