Gerritsen Beach residents launch own relief center

Hurricane Sandy victims in Gerritsen Beach are taking relief efforts into their own hands.

Residents have created a makeshift outreach center at the corner of Noel and Seba avenues. It's completely run by volunteers and is providing bottled water, food and other supplies daily from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Most homes are still without power for an 11th straight day. Neighbors say Con Edison can't turn the lights back on until they ensure that all of their electrical boxes are free of salt water damage, which would be a fire risk.
