Sandy repairs under way on Coney Island Hospital

Crews are hard at work restoring Coney Island Hospital after it sustained damage during Sandy last month.

Parts of the hospital were damaged after floodwaters submerged the basement. Floodwaters also damaged the elevators, the outpatient service area and the emergency room.

Hospital officials say limited emergency room services will open by the end of November, with full emergency room services and hospital admissions to begin again in January. In the meantime, the hospital is running an outpatient clinic in the daytime, a pharmacy and 24-hour urgent care. Pediatric services are also available.

Repairs will be funded by $300 million that's been appropriated by the City Council.
