2 homes destroyed, others damaged in Mill Basin fire

Firefighters extinguished a fast-moving four-alarm fire in Mill Basin Monday afternoon.
Investigators say the flames broke out at around 2:30 p.m. at 2218 National Drive and spread to three other homes.
About 170 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 2 ½ hours. Six firefighters suffered injuries. No one else was hurt.
Two homes were destroyed. One of those homes belonged to a leukemia patient who was returning from a treatment during the incident.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Department of Buildings is expected to determine if the two homes with the most damage should be torn down.
