Protesters rally against bringing charter school into P.S. 157
Parents, students and teachers in Williamsburg are rallying against moving a charter school into the same building as Benjamin Franklin Public School, or P.S. 157.
There are currently 500 students at P.S. 157. The plan calls for Beginning with Children Charter School to move in, bringing more than 350 extra students.
Some community members are against this because they feel it will limit space, teachers and funding.
Teachers and students held a rally in front of the school Tuesday to send a message to the Department of Education.
News 12 reached out to Beginning with Children Charter School about the co-location. A spokesperson said, "The administration, faculty and students of BWCCS realized that co-locating is not always an easy relationship and intend to forge a partnership with K157 with the same awareness and sensitivity that one might have when moving into someone else's home."
Educators say the idea is just a proposal and that a decision will be made at a later date.
